For Students
Is your education preparing you to be a creative problem solver and good planetary citizen? Are you interested in learning how to create real solutions to real problems?
CELF works with students, teachers, schools and districts to provide programs ranging from professional development for educators to seminars and programs for students and the community. For sustainability education to succeed it must reach beyond one student, one classroom, one teacher. We must all become agents for change!
How can you get involved?
- Become CELF-taught. Attend a CELF community presentation or Learning with Leaders program, or inquire about hosting one at your school »
- Calculate your personal Ecological Footprint, then make a plan that helps you shrink the resources you and your family consume and toss away.
- For elementary school students: www.kidsfootprint.org
- For middle/high/college students: www.footprintnetwork.org
- Volunteer at a CELF event, donate your talent and enthusiasm to support schools locally and beyond! »
- Check out the Student Sustainability Summit and join us for this full day program that convenes like-minded high school students and provides them with a net-working forum and leadership training, PLUS assists them as they apply their enthusiasm and creativity to produce tangible, sustainable solutions to real-life issues.
- Check out our Resource Center for opportunities, information and resources specifically for K-12 students.
- Engage your friends and parents in informed discussions about topics such as clean energy and carbon emissions, resource consumption and waste, green building and sustainable design.
- Look at what’s happening at colleges and universities across the country in your area of interest, whether that’s science, engineering, architecture, design, public policy or sociology,
See how sustainability is being addressed across campuses and in college coursework nationwide
“Our first year we came on a class field trip (to the EXPO) and we couldn’t wait to come back this year to be exhibitors. It was great showing off our student energy audit and what changes we proposed. And it was very cool to be exhibiting beside the energy experts that actually did the work in our district.”

Student as Expert
“It was great getting a chance to show off our expertise for the day to so many people. As a presenter I felt like I made a real connection with the students visiting, because I understood how to make the information truly interesting to them. And it was great hearing from teachers and other adults that I was helping them learn a lot more about my topic.”
Greeley High School 10th grade student, EXPO Presenter, Chappaqua, NY
“Congratulations on another great event! It (the EXPO) was so well organized and interesting. My students were really excited about it.”
